Department for Undergraduate Education(DUE) of Xi’an Jiaotong University undertaking operation, administration and service of undergraduate education is one of the administrative departments of Xi’an Jiaotong University.DUE comprises five sections, namely, Registration and Operation Center(ROC), Center for Teaching Resource Development and Quality Assessment(CTRDQA), Center for Practical Training Management(CPTM), Cooperation and Exchange Service Center(CESC), Office for Talented Students Education(OTSE)and Office of DUE Comprehensive Affairs(OCA). The responsibilities for each section are stated as below.
ROC is responsible for curriculum and examinations arrangement, classroom constructions, management of registration, graduate qualification examination, test-free post-graduate students recommendation, Student information statistics.
CTRDQA is responsible for undergraduate cultivation scheme establishment, teaching quality of undergraduate education assessment and monitor, teaching reform projects establishment and management, constructions of curriculum, textbooks, teacher resources and new majors.
CPTM is responsible for management of “985 Project” and “211 Project” innovative talent cultivation conditions, planning, implementing, checking and accepting special constructions like National Engineering Courses Teaching Base, management of special practices like teaching practice and production practice and construction of experimental teaching bases.
CESC is responsible for domestic and international exchange of undergraduates, transcripts for going abroad processing and graduation verification.
OTSE is responsible for the affairs of Class for talented students, Qian Xuesen Experimental Class, Special Class for the Gifted Young and Hou Zonglian Medical Class.
OCA is responsible for the comprehensive affairs within the department, the teaching information system management and the administration of Auditors and mid-career students.
DUE makes reforming the current teaching system as its first priority, focusing on curriculum construction, emphasizing teaching practice, standardizing management systems and setting up the ground for management team construction. In 1994, Xi’an Jiaotong University carried out the policy of admission and cultivating by department. In 1995, Xi’an Jiaotong University took the lead in addressing the talent cultivating model of widening and softening major. According to the principle of Good Foundation, new teaching plan was established. Three-level curriculum system, that is, university, school and department curriculum system and fundamental curriculum system was gradually set up. Seven national level teaching bases involving Mathematics, physical, electronics, life science, software, integrated circuit talent cultivating, one national college students' cultural quality education base, seven national level experimental teaching demonstration center, three provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, ten basic course teaching and experimental centers, one engineering training center were founded. Over one hundred teaching reform projects concerning talent cultivating model research, curriculum reform and improving students’ innovation were established. Since 2000, Xi’an Jiaotong University has made 401 progresses in the research and practice of teaching reform, among which, 32 are national outstanding teaching achievement award, and 114 are provincial outstanding teaching achievement award. In 2002, 10 textbooks were award the national level outstanding textbook.
In 1994 and 1999, DUE was awarded National College of Outstanding Educational Administration Office by Ministry of Education of China.
